Long ago, in the heart of Africa, there lived a quick-witted rabbit named Mafunyane. He loved to play tricks on his friends and family. One sunny day, while hopping through the forest, Mafunyane met Brer Fox, who had a clever plan.

'Let's go find some juicy berries,' said Brer Fox with a sly grin. 'But we must be careful not to get caught by our enemies!' Mafunyane's ears perked up at this. He knew that if they got caught, the fox would eat him for lunch.

The two friends scampered through the forest until they reached the thorny briar patch. Brer Fox warned Mafunyane to be careful, but he ignored the warning and jumped into the thorns. As expected, Brer Fox chased after him with a big smile on his face.

But little did Brer Fox know that Mafunyane had planned something clever. The rabbit quickly rolled up into a tight ball and started to hum. The humming created a thick cloud of fog that enveloped the fox. When the fog cleared, Brer Fox saw that he was covered in thorns!

Mafunyane laughed with glee, 'You should have been careful what you wished for!' he said with a wink. From that day on, the other animals respected Mafunyane's cleverness and resourcefulness.

The villagers would say, 'Mafunyane is as slippery as an eel in the water, always staying one step ahead of his enemies.'
