Every child grows up hearing stories. But not every child gets to hear all the stories — the tales whispered by grandmothers in Japanese mountain villages, the heroic legends passed down in West African kingdoms, the trickster fables that have made children laugh in Greek harbors for thousands of years.
We started Legends and Fables with a simple belief: cultural storytelling belongs to every child.
In a world that often shrinks the richness of human experience into a handful of familiar fairy tales, we saw a gap worth filling. Children deserve access to the wisdom, wonder, and humor of stories from every culture and every corner of the globe. Not just as a lesson in diversity, but as a genuine celebration of how similar we all are — the same fears, the same hopes, the same joy in a well-told tale.
Today, Legends and Fables brings you over 110 stories from 17+ cultures and regions, available in 10+ languages. And we're just getting started. A new story arrives every week.
Our Mission
For thousands of years, communities across the world have passed down their deepest wisdom, values, and cultural heritage through the timeless art of storytelling. From the villages of West Africa to the ancient kingdoms of India, these stories have shaped generations of young minds.
To make the world's most meaningful stories accessible, engaging, and free for every child — regardless of where they live, what language they speak, or what resources they have.
We believe:
- Every culture has stories worth telling. The world's rich tapestry of folklore shouldn't be hidden in academic archives or expensive anthologies. It belongs in the hands (and minds) of children everywhere.
- Stories teach us to be human. Kindness, courage, curiosity, and wisdom aren't concepts — they're lessons woven into the stories we tell our children. We want every child to discover these lessons through stories from cultures they may have never explored.
- Language should never be a barrier. A child in Brazil deserves the same access to Japanese folk tales as a child in Tokyo. Our multilingual approach — powered by AI translation — makes that possible.
- Learning should be joyful. We create content that children genuinely want to read, not content that feels like homework. Every story is designed to entertain first and educate second.
At Legends and Fables, we believe every child deserves access to this rich treasure trove of human experience. Our mission is to carefully curate, retell, and beautifully present traditional stories from diverse cultures — making them accessible, engaging, and meaningful for today's young readers.
