Androcles and the Lion

Androcles and the Lion
Aesop

Once upon a time, a kind slave named Androcles lived in ancient Greece. He was treated poorly by his owner, but Androcles always tried to do good deeds. One day, he hurt his hand while working.

A few days later, Androcles decided to run away from home. He traveled through the desert until he reached a beautiful forest. While resting under a tree, he heard a loud roar.

Androcles looked around and saw a lion trapped in a pit. The poor animal's leg was stuck. Androcles knew he had to help. He carefully freed the lion with his strong hands.

The grateful lion licked Androcles' face and became his friend. They traveled together until they reached a river. But now, the lion's owner came searching for him.

Androcles saw his chance and ran away, leaving the lion behind. However, the lion soon found him and thanked him again and again. The people who lived nearby were amazed by their kindness towards each other.

Eventually, Androcles was captured by a group of soldiers and sentenced to be thrown into the lions' den as a sacrifice to the gods. But when they opened the cage, out came not fierce beasts but the lion that he had freed.

The lion recognized Androcles and went straight to him. The people were amazed and released Androcles immediately.

And so, kindness can conquer even great dangers and save us from trouble. This is why we must be kind to all living creatures, no matter how big or small they are.
