The Tortoise and the Geese

Karkata, a wise old tortoise, lived in a lush forest near a serene lake. He was known for his gentle nature and love of stories.

One sunny day, while basking in the warmth, Karkata met three geese – Hamsa, her sister Sarpini, and their mother, Jyoti. The trio had flown from far away to escape a harsh winter. As they settled into their new home, they began to gossip about Karkata's slow pace.

"Look at him," said Hamsa with a chuckle. "He takes his time for everything – eating, sleeping, even walking."

Sarpini laughed and added, "If we were like Karkata, it would take us forever to fly across the sky!"

Jyoti scolded her daughters gently but firmly, saying, "We should respect our friend's nature. Everyone has their unique gifts and talents."

But Hamsa and Sarpini didn't listen. They teased Karkata mercilessly, calling him names and making fun of his slow movements.

One day, while the geese were out searching for food, a strong storm rolled in over the forest. Dark clouds gathered, and thunder boomed loudly. The wind howled through the trees, causing branches to sway ominously.

Karkata, sensing danger, sought shelter. He quickly retreated into his cozy burrow, where he waited patiently until the storm passed.

Meanwhile, Hamsa, Sarpini, and Jyoti struggled to find refuge from the raging winds. They flew around frantically but were blown off course by strong gusts.

As the storm subsided, the geese stumbled upon Karkata's burrow, soaked and shivering with fear. They begged for shelter, but Karkata, remembering their mocking words, refused to let them in.

"Your sharp tongues hurt me more than any storm could," he said calmly.

The geese were shocked by Karkata's response. They realized too late that his slow pace had actually helped him prepare for the storm and find safety.

Jyoti apologized on behalf of her daughters, promising they would never mock anyone again. Hamsa and Sarpini learned to appreciate the value of patience and respect.

From that day forward, Karkata and the geese became close friends, each learning from one another's unique qualities and gifts. And the wise old tortoise continued to share his stories with the forest creatures, reminding them that kindness and understanding are the greatest treasures of all.
