The Brave Little Tailor

As the sun rose over the small village of Kassel, a young tailor named Hans Müller stood outside his shop, sipping a warm cup of coffee. His mother had made him a hearty breakfast before he headed out to start his day's work. Hans was only twelve years old, but he took great pride in being able to sew and repair clothes for the villagers.

Hans's shop was small, with a sign creaking in the gentle breeze that read "Müller's Tailoring." Inside, he worked tirelessly on repairing the worn-out shoes of Herr Müller, his father. The old man sat patiently by the window, watching Hans as he carefully stitched and patched the shoes.

Hans loved nothing more than hearing tales of bravery from the villagers who would come in for repairs. He longed to be a hero himself one day, but what could a small tailor do?

One morning, as Hans was finishing up his work, a messenger burst into the shop, breathless. "Hans Müller, you are called by the King!" he exclaimed. The young tailor's eyes widened in surprise as he quickly finished his task and followed the messenger to the castle.

Upon arrival, Hans met with the King himself, who explained that the kingdom was plagued by a giant, Groteus, who had begun to terrorize villages across the land. The King asked Hans if he would be willing to take on the task of killing the monster, promising great reward and recognition for his bravery.

Hans hesitated at first, unsure of how to tackle such a daunting challenge. But with his mother's encouragement, he decided to accept the task. "How can I defeat this giant?" Hans asked the King.

The King smiled kindly and said, "Groteus is known to sleep soundly for four hours each day. During this time, you must find a way to reach him and strike while he is vulnerable." With that advice, Hans set off towards the forest where Groteus was said to reside.

Hans carefully observed Groteus from afar, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Finally, when the giant began his daily nap, Hans snuck closer, measuring out four small pieces of thread. Each piece measured exactly one hour of time – Hans had learned that math would be crucial in this task.

When the first piece of thread was cut loose by Groteus's movements, Hans quickly sewed it to a nearby branch. He repeated this process for each passing hour, creating a long line of thread leading directly to Groteus's sleeping form. As the threads were pulled taut, Hans crept closer and closer until he stood right next to the giant.

Hans carefully aimed his tiny scissors at one of the threads and snipped it loose just as Groteus stirred from his sleep. The threads tightened, pulling the giant's massive body down towards the ground, entrapping him beneath their combined weight.

When the King heard news of Hans's bravery, he was overjoyed. "You have saved our kingdom!" he exclaimed, awarding Hans a medal and declaring that his name would be remembered for generations to come.
