The Hare and the Tortoise - Aesop Fable

A Hare was mocking the Tortoise one day for being extremely slow.

"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked, laughing mockingly.

"Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."

The Hare found the idea of racing the Tortoise amusing, but he agreed for the fun of it. The Fox, who had agreed to be the judge, marked the distance and started the race.

The Hare quickly disappeared from sight and, to further emphasize the absurdity of racing a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise caught up.

Meanwhile, the Tortoise continued slowly but steadily and, after a while, passed the spot where the Hare was sleeping. The Hare slept on peacefully, and when he finally woke up, the Tortoise was near the finish line. The Hare then sprinted as fast as he could, but he couldn't catch up to the Tortoise in time.
