The Sun and the Moon

In a world beyond our own, where the skies were painted with hues of crimson and gold, lived two best friends, Sangmo (the Sun) and Chongmok (the Moon). They loved to play hide-and-seek among the clouds, chasing each other's silvery beams as they danced across the heavens.

Sangmo, with his bright smile, brought warmth to the earth below. He was always full of energy, laughing as he climbed higher and higher into the sky. Chongmok, on the other hand, glowed softly, casting a gentle light upon the sleeping world. She was wise and calm, often telling stories of ancient times to her dear friend.

One day, while they were playing together, Sangmo boasted about his bright rays that could make flowers bloom instantly. He said he was the most important one in their sky kingdom, as everyone needed his warmth to grow. Chongmok listened patiently, but a hint of sadness flickered in her eyes.

Sangmo and Chongmok began to argue, each trying to outdo the other with tales of their accomplishments. The skies grew dark, and the winds started to howl. Their dispute reached its peak when a great storm cloud arose between them. The world below trembled as the balance between light and darkness was disrupted.

As the tempest raged on, an old wise spirit descended from the clouds. She was Sosul (the Celestial Queen), who had watched over Sangmo and Chongmok since their first appearance in the sky. With a gentle hand, she parted the storm cloud and stood between the two friends.

Sosul said, "My dear children, do you not see that your bond is stronger than any boast or argument? You are like day and night – each essential to the other. Sangmo, without Chongmok's soft light, your bright rays would be too harsh for the world. And Chongmok, without Sangmo's warmth, your gentle glow would not sustain life."
